Degree Audit Report System (DARS)
|
How do I find out which of the degree requirements I've completed?
- A Degree Audit Report, commonly called a "degree check" is a report that compares your record to the requirements for the degree. The University creates two separate audits, one for the college requirements and one for the major requirements.
- The University now has a computerized degree audit system, DARS, which makes it possible for you to request your own audit through Bear Facts. (You will not be able to request one for the major requirements if you have not officially declared your major.)
- If this is your first semester at Cal, however, degree audits will not be available until after the 12th week of classes, due to the length of time it takes to complete the loading of all the information. That point in the term is also the first time your transfer units will be posted to your Berkeley transcript.
- If you transferred from a California community college, you can attempt to use the Assist website to deduce how you stand regarding the College requirements. However, if you transferred from a California community college that hasn't set up an articulation agreement on Assist, or a four-year school, or from out of state, you may wish to bring your own copies of your transcripts to CalSO, or to an advising appointment sometime around the beginning of your first semester.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q - If I am fairly confident that I know how my transfer courses apply toward the requirements, is there any reason for me to request a college requirements DAR? A - Yes. It is possible that transcripts from your previous school(s) were never received by the Admissions Office, or that a human error was made in entering that information into DARS. Either way, you'll want to know that, and follow up on it (see the next question.) Q - If my DAR shows something that I think is a mistake, what should I do? A - Don't panic! There is plenty of time to get it fixed, and the University is not going to insist the Audit is right if you point out a mistake. Our office has a "Degree Audit Report Correction Request" available at our front desk at 113 Campbell Hall; come fill one of those out, and we will work on your DAR until it is correct. (If you are already a declared major and the problem is with the major DAR, go to your major departmental office.)
