Quantitative Reasoning (QR)

I still need to complete Quantitative Reasoning (QR). What should I do?

  • As a junior, you should plan to complete QR as soon as possible. Delaying until the senior year is not recommended as this can sometimes interfere with, or complicate, your graduation plans.

  • To complete Quantitative Reasoning, a course must be taken for a letter grade, and a grade of C- or better must be earned.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q - Which courses do students normally take to fulfill the QR requirement?

A - Math 32, Statistics 2, or Computer Science 3 are popular courses.

Q - I do not need to take any Math, Statistics, or Computer Science courses for my major and Math is not a strength of mine. Which course should I take?

A - Advisers usually recommend Statistics 2 for students who are not interested in taking more than one quantitative course. Students also have the option to take an equivalent course at a community college over the summer (check with www.assist.org).

Q - If I take the QR requirement at a community college or some other non-UC school, does it still have to be letter-graded?

A - Yes, though the grade does not appear on your UC transcript, the College requires a C- or better in any course taken to complete the requirement.
