If You Can Not Attend CalSO

Start Index End Index

While it is critical for all new students to attend CalSO, we recognize that a few of you are unable to do so. Students who do not participate in orientation enroll in classes after those who attended CalSO. New students who did not attend will be able to log on at http://calso.berkeley.edu to obtain their Adviser Code (AC), Tele-BEARS (Cal's web-based enrollment system) appointment time, and enrollment instructions after the CalSO programs have concluded.

For those who did not attend a CalSO orientation program, New Student Services will offer a one-day condensed version of a CalSO program called "Getting Your Bearings" during "Welcome Week" (see below).

In addition to the "Getting Your Bearings" Program; because you did not attend CalSO, it is also especially important to utilize Cal's web resources to help you:

Freshman: Academic Orienteering
Transfer: TOOLS

The links above provide you with information on academic requirements, including advice on how to prioritize classes, and other topics of concern to new students.

Other resources to help you plan your first-term schedule at Cal:

  • Earning Your Degree Guide, a free publication (available at 113 Campbell Hall) that provides information on graduation requirements, explains majors and minors, and gives advice on fulfilling your requirements.
  • Learn about L&S majors.
  • Schedule of Classes.
  • 2007-2009 General Catalog, a publication that provides major and course information for all Colleges and Schools at Berkeley (call 800-766-1546 to order a hard copy).
  • Slides from CalSO's L&S presentation: freshmen and transfer students
