Music
The Music program at Berkeley encompasses historical and cultural studies, musicianship and theory, and performance. Students establish a solid grounding in practical skills and pre-professional training. To prepare to declare the major, students must complete the Music Placement Procedure, which includes a written exam, audition and faculty interview.
Lower Division Requirements and Prerequisites for the Music Major

- Music 74, 75, 76, 77
Note: Students who plan to major in music must take the music placement examination to determine placement in the appropriate level of musicianship and harmony courses. Prospective majors are encouraged to begin the music program early, preferably in their freshman year.
