Middle Eastern Studies
The interdisciplinary major in Middle Eastern Studies offers a broad and balanced view of the culture and history of the Arab world, Turkey, Iran, and Israel, intertwining history and culture, with an emphasis on modern and contemporary issues. Intermediate level proficiency in at least one modern Middle Eastern language is included in the lower division requirements.
Lower Division Requirements and Prerequisites* for the Middle Eastern Studies Major
*(prerequisites are lower division requirements that must be completed before declaring the major)
- Near Eastern Studies 10* or History 12*
- two years of a Middle Eastern language: Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, or Turkish (At least one semester of the language requirement must be completed or in progress before admission to the major.*)
Note: prerequisites may be in progress at time of declaration.
