Molecular and Cell Biology

Undergraduate programs in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB) concentrates on the molecular structures and processes of cellular life and their roles in the function, reproduction, and development of living organisms. Students in the major select an emphasis in one of several specialized disciplines including biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, cell biology, developmental biology, pathogenesis and neurobiology.

Lower Division Requirements for the Molecular and Cell Biology Major

  • Biology 1A/1AL-1B
  • Chemistry 1A and 3A/3AL-3B/3BL
  • Mathematics 1A-1B
  • Physics 8A-8B

Please note that students who are interested in the Biological Chemistry track of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology emphasis must also take Chem 1B and must replace the Chem 3A/3B series with the Chem 112A/112B series. Please get in touch with the advisors in the Undergraduate Affairs Office if you have questions.
