American Studies

The interdisciplinary major in American Studies focuses on American society from pre-colonial times to the contemporary period. The major also includes a larger international perspective, recognizing that political, cultural, and economic patterns do not stop at national borders.

Lower Division Requirements and Prerequisites for the American Studies Major

• American Studies 10 or 10AC

Note: Two of the lower division courses must also be completed before students can declare the major.
