Please take this survey on how you access L&S Advising

The folks here at L&S Advising are working hard to improve how you get the help and information you need to thrive at Cal. So we can concentrate our efforts where they'd benefit you the most, we'd like to know which media you currently use - and which you'd prefer to use - to reach us. It's only two questions long, how hard is that?!

Honors Privileges

As an honor student, you are entitled to the following privileges:

  • You may enroll in the honors program in your major, provided you also have the required GPA in courses in the major and the approval of the major department.
  • As a senior honor student (that is, if you have attained "Honors to Date" after your junior year) you may, with the dean's approval, enroll in fewer than 13 units in order to complete the honors program in your major.
  • The major department may waive requirements concerning specific courses or sequences in your major.

You will also find that your excellent record of accomplishment can open new doors to you:

  • High grades make you eligible for a wide array of competitive scholarships. Investigate the scholarship opportunities listed at the Scholarship Connection.
  • Research challenges you and allows you to take your classroom knowledge to a new and rewarding level. If you have not already done so, investigate research opportunities at the Office of Undergraduate Research.
  • The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship program (SURF) is designed to allow Berkeley undergraduates in the College of Letters & Science to spend the summer doing concentrated research in preparation for a senior thesis or another major capstone research project.
