Please take this survey on how you access L&S Advising

The folks here at L&S Advising are working hard to improve how you get the help and information you need to thrive at Cal. So we can concentrate our efforts where they'd benefit you the most, we'd like to know which media you currently use - and which you'd prefer to use - to reach us. It's only two questions long, how hard is that?!

Finding Your Way for Freshmen

Finding Your Way (FYW) is a comprehensive program for first-year students in the College of Letters and Science. This website will serve as the primary means of communicating important information and updates for freshmen throughout the year.

Do NOT place yourself on the degree list in a Spring term just because you want to go through that term's Commencement Ceremonies! It is appropriate to be on the degree list ONLY if you are completing all your requirements.

The University holds Commencement only at the end of the spring term, but obviously many students complete their requirements and graduate at the end of summer or fall terms. In the College of Letters and Science, the ceremonies are held at the departmental level, and most departments allow prospective future summer or fall graduates to go through the previous May's commencement if they wish. Talk to the Undergraduate Major Adviser (UMA) in your major department if you are seeking that permission. The main University website has more information regarding Commencement, including the departmental schedules as soon as they are available.
