Change of College

In effect July 1, 2004

Application periods:

Fall semester:		the first day of instruction through November 1
Spring semester:		the first day of instruction through June 1

You will be notified of the Dean's decision within two to four weeks after submission of your application. The College expects you to submit your application as soon as you have:

1. Decided to pursue a change of college into Letters & Science and
2. Completed all of the requirements below.

Please read and review carefully. Incomplete petitions will be denied.

Questions regarding policy and procedures for change of college into Letters & Science cannot be addressed in individual advising sessions, which are available only for current L&S students. The College provides special workshops each term to help applicants prepare. The schedule for these workshops is available on-line and at 113 Campbell Hall.

You will be considered for change of college only if (not counting college credit you earned while still in high school) you:

• Have completed at least one semester of coursework at UC Berkeley
• Have completed fewer than 90 units at the end of your last term before admission to the College
• Are able to complete your degree within the College's unit limit
• Have completed Entry Level Writing and the first half of the Reading and Composition requirement (by the end of your freshman year)
• Have also completed the second half of the Reading and Composition requirement (by the end of your sophomore year)
• Are eligible to declare a major (if you have completed 60 units or more)

Please note: Grade Point Average is also a significant consideration for admission to the College. Students who meet all other criteria and have a 3.0 or higher GPA are more likely to be approved.

You MUST submit:

• The Change of College petition
• A personal statement outlining your academic plans and your reasons for requesting admission into the College of Letters and Science

If you have completed 60 or more units, you MUST also submit:

• A Declaration of Major petition, signed by an advisor in the major you wish to declare
• A semester-by-semester program plan indicating how and when you will graduate, signed by an advisor in the major you wish to declare
