Job Title:

Peer Adviser

Joined the L&S Office of Undergraduate Advising in:

September 2008

What is your approach to advising?

My approach and goal to advising is to empower other students to recognize the choices that are available to them in any given situation.

Education:

BA, Political Economy, UC Berkeley, May 2010

How did you get here?

Living in the residential halls for a total of five semesters has helped me develop a passion for helping others, particularly new students. I enjoy meeting and talking to my fellow students, new and returning, and strive to help them whenever I can. What better way to do so than to be a peer adviser for the College of Letters and Science?

What's your favorite part of your job?

Interacting with my peers and the college advisers

Most unusual job you ever had?

I have not yet encountered a particularly unusual job so far, but I have had jobs with unusually delightful and quirky co-workers!

Best class you ever took:

There are so many! A few from the top of my head are: SOC1 (Introduction to Sociology), L&S150A (Global Society and Cultural Change: NGOs and the Response to AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa), and PS124A (War!).

About me:

I am a fourth year Political Economy major, but have jumped around majors many times before settling on the major. Having lived in the residential halls for five semesters, I have become familiar, through my own experiences as well as my floormates', with the stress that may occur when students have to make decisions about their college careers (i.e. deciding on a major, determining which classes to enroll in). I enjoy talking and working with students, new and returning, and am excited to share the passion I have developed over the years for Cal and the liberal arts in the College of Letters & Science as well as the wealth of resources available to all students here.

What advice do you have for L&S students in general?

Study what you love and love what you study. Your passion will help open doors to countless opportunities in college and in the real world. If you have questions, don't afraid to ask your GSIs or professors - they're FANTASTIC here at Cal!
