Kathy Sarconi

Name:

Kathy Sarconi

Job Title:

College Adviser

Joined the L&S Office of Undergraduate Advising in:

February 2006

What is your approach to advising?

To give students the information and tools to help themselves.

Education:

BA in Broadcast Communication Arts

How did you get here?

I've been an adviser here at Cal for about 20 years, first in the Graduate School of Journalism, then in Political Science, and now here in L&S. Being a college adviser has been very rewarding for me, as it allows me to use many different skills and talents and satisfies my need to feel that I've been helpful and have made a difference to people.

What's your favorite part of your job?

Working with a variety of personality types and helping students understand their options.

Most unusual job you ever had:

Cherry-pit remover at S&W Fine Foods (a very sticky job!)

About me:

My interests include environmentalism, animal rights, political activism, and psychology, and I am a certified hypnotherapist. What I've learned from the study and practice of hypnotherapy is that people are infinitely more powerful than they realize, and we all have everything we need to be and do whatever we want. I hope that that conviction shows through and enhances my ability to inspire, motivate, encourage, and connect with the students I work with.

What advice do you have for L&S students in general?

This is your life - make the most of it! Explore opportunities, push your boundaries, step outside your comfort zone, and make your life sing!
