Welcome to L&S Office of Undergraduate AdvisingWelcome to the Office of Undergraduate Advising via our web page! The College takes seriously its responsibility to provide students with access to courses, faculty, research opportunities, and advisers. In turn we believe that students also have responsibilities toward the College. A brief statement of student responsibilities details your obligations toward Letters and Science. As partners in your academic success, the staff in OUA encourages you to take time to fully explore the links on this web page and to drop by our Office in Campbell Hall for additional information. An informed student is most often a successful student! Finding Your Way for new students
Finding Your Way (FYW) is a comprehensive program for first-year freshmen and first-semester transfer students in the College of Letters and Science. Our goal is to familiarize you with the measures you can take to succeed in articulating and fulfilling your academic pursuits. We also want to foster an appreciation for the responsibility that, as a college student, you will now assume in crafting your education and managing degree progress. The Finding Your Way website will serve as the primary means of communicating important information and updates for freshmen throughout the year. Fall '08 Discovery CoursesThe seven-course L&S breadth requirement can be an unparalleled opportunity to explore fascinating worlds of knowledge. The Letters & Science Discovery Courses take the guesswork out of satisfying the breadth requirement. Taught by some of the most distinguished faculty on campus and deliberately designed to engage and ignite the minds of non-experts, these courses are destined to be unforgettable. Change of College Workshops for Spring 2008The College provides special workshops each term to help applicants prepare for change of college into Letters & Science. The schedule for these workshops is available on-line and at 113 Campbell Hall. Planning Your YearsPlanning Your Years @ Cal (PYY@Cal) is a course selection tool designed specifically for you, the undergraduate student in the College of Letters and Science (L&S). The L&S College Advisers and the L&S Graduation and Transfer Evaluators have designed it to clarify and summarize "Course Priorities" and "Other Issues" that you should consider when planning your studies from beginning to end. Each Course Priority or Other Issue page contains timely academic and administrative advice for you, as well as sample Frequently Asked Questions. The priorities and issues are organized in relatively brief and easy to read sections with many links to other resources in L&S and around campus. They are presented under five academic year designations: Freshman Year, Sophomore Year, Transfer, Junior Year, Senior Year. Upcoming Important DatesMay 2008
